What is ilioinguinal neuralgia?
Ilioinguinal neuralgia is a painful disorder of the ilioinguinal nerve due to damage and/or loss of function in this nerve.
Cause
Ilioinguinal neuralgia can have many causes, the most common being damage as a result of
abdominal surgery,
pelvic surgery,
hernial repair surgery and
kidney surgery.
Signs and symptoms
The symptoms in ilioinguinal neuralgia usually consist of an unpleasant painful sensation in the lower abdomen and groin, radiating to the upper inner upper leg and to the genitals. Patients complain of a severe burning and stabbing pain.
